about
I wrote this about 23 years ago about someone I used to know.
lyrics
Our 8 year old son's on Ritalin like everyone else at school
He had too much imagination but now he's easy to control
My wife survives on soap operas and Xanax
And I, myself, stay sane by taking Prozac
But big sister got hooked on heroin and we didn't know what to do
I wonder why she ever ran away?
We lived in a big three-story house on a sterile suburban street
When my daughter came home from San Francisco, what would the neighbors think?
So our family doctor prescribed the solution
To have her locked down in a mental institution
So I made a call and I wrote a check and I did what I had to do
And they came and took my baby away
When they let her go, she was only a shadow, a lonely broken shell
One night I woke to my wife screaming to find my daughter had hanged herself
And I get sad when I think that I'll never ever hear the laughter
Of my lifeless, blue-faced little girl I had to cut down from the rafters
But if I open my mouth and I close my eyes and swallow another pill
I can make the memories go away
